Raised in New York, David came to Colorado to attend CU-Boulder where he studied music and anthropology. In 1987 he began working at the Association of Brewers, performing data-entry of The New Brewer magazine articles. Fourteen years later (including six years running the Institute for Brewing Studies division of AOB), David had acquired a broad range of experience, including: public speaking, conference planning, statistical research, association management, media relations, marketing, brewing, beer judging, fundraising, stategic planning, selling memberships, and helping brewers get more ice for their beer on the floor of the GABF. David studied brewing at Siebel Institute's Short Course in Brewing Technology. He received BAA's 2001 FX Matt Award for Defense of the Small Brewing Industry, and a Silver Tankard from the American Guild of Beer Writers in 1999.

Post-AOB, David spent eight months selling Loeffler Chemicals. Next, inspired by Hopunion's Ralph Olson, David started Mountain West Brewery Supply, Inc. as a manufacturer's representative for a group of companies serving the brewing industry, including Loeffler, Hopunion, the Czech lab equipment supplier 1-CUBE, and CHRISDEC Enterprises (a subsidary of Chrislan Ceramics), the U.S. sales agent for Rastal glassware. Learning more each day, David feels extremely fortunate to continue in the brewing industry - and especially lucky to have joined the great team at Hopunion CBS, led by Ralph and Ralph. In his spare time, David enjoys being with his wife and two daughters; plays keyboards in reggae and African music bands; and aspires to learn to speak Lithuanian.
