CO2 Extract
GmAA = IBU x (BBL/0.8522) 3.5* Where:
GmAA = grams of alpha acids to be added in the brew kettle IBU = the desired amount of bitterness units from the addition BBL = barrels of finished beer
* Use rates may vary depending on the brewing process and the desired hopping level.
** If you would like to change the efficiency from 35%, adjust the 3.5 in the equation. 32% efficiency will change this value to 3.2 and 38% efficiency will adjust to 3.8.
***Homebrewers, if you are making a batch less than 1 barrel, you will need to divide the number of gallons by 31. The resulting decimal will be placed into the BBL box for calculations. Example: 5 gallons/31 gallons = 0.161 BBL. Input 0.161 in the BBL box and GmAA= 1.08
Isomerized Hop Extract
Dosage = BU x 0.360 0.80** Where:
Dosage = milliliters of IAA to be added per BBL of beer post fermentation BU = is the desired amount of bitterness units imparted by ISO * Use rates may vary depending on the brewing process and the desired hopping level.
** If you would like to change the efficiency from 80%, adjust the 0.80 in the equation. 75% efficiency will change this value to 0.75 and 85% efficiency will adjust to 0.85.
***Homebrewers, if you are making a batch less than 1 barrel, you will need to fill in the box with the desired BU's. Then you need to divide the dosage by 31 gallons and multiply by the number of gallons you are brewing. Example: 5 gallon batch and desire 17 BU's from IHE: Dosage = 7.65mL/1 BBl ÷ 31 gallons= 0.247ml/gal. New Dosage = 0.247mL/gal x 5 gal = 1.23mL
Tetrahyrdo Isomerized Hop Extract
Dosage = BU x 0.680 0.70** Where:
Dosage = milliliters of THIAA to be added per BBL of beer BU = is the desired amount of bitterness units imparted by Tetra * Use rates may vary depending on the brewing process and the desired hopping level.
** If you would like to change the efficiency from 70%, adjust the 0.70 in the equation. 75% efficiency will change this value to 0.75 and 65% efficiency will adjust to 0.65.
***Homebrewers, if you are making a batch less than 1 barrel, you will need to fill in the box with the desired BU's. Then you need to divide the dosage by 31 gallons and multiply by the number of gallons you are brewing. Example: 5 gallon batch and desire 20 BU's from Tetra: Dosage = 19.43mL/1 BBl ÷ 31 gallons= 0.627ml/gal. New Dosage = 0.627mL/gal x 5 gal = 3.13mL
Reduced Kettle Extract Post-fermentation use
Dosage = BU x 0.520 0.70** Where:
Dosage = milliliters of Rho-IAA to be added per BBL of beer BU = is the desired amount of bitterness units imparted by RKE * Use rates may vary depending on the brewing process and the desired hopping level.
***Homebrewers, if you are making a batch less than 1 barrel, you will need to fill in the box with the desired BU's. Then you need to divide the dosage by 31 gallons and multiply by the number of gallons you are brewing. Example: 5 gallon batch and desire 10 BU's from RKE: Dosage = 7.43mL/1 BBl ÷ 31 gallons= 0.240ml/gal. New Dosage = 0.240mL/gal x 5 gal = 1.20mL
